Our operations in Newfoundland and Labrador encompass a fully integrated mining, milling, and processing facility. Nickel concentrate from the remote Voisey's Bay operation is transported to our advanced Long Harbour Processing Plant, where it is refined into low-carbon, high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds, and copper cathodes.
The Role
We are in search of an E&I Maintenance Superintendent to become a part of our team. This permanent role will follow a 4x10 work schedule on-site.
The E&I Maintenance Superintendent will oversee the Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance operations at the Long Harbour site. This position entails leading a team of supervisors and their respective crews, which include Electricians and Instrumentation Technicians.
In this capacity, you will:
- Champion and promote Safe Production practices among team members while minimizing risks to the lowest possible level (ALARA). Provide coaching and mentorship to supervisors and teams through visible leadership and the execution of personal safety plans. Take decisive corrective actions when necessary to address compliance issues.
- Coordinate Electrical and Instrumentation tasks for the facility in alignment with the Vale Asset Management Framework, utilizing work management principles and collaborating with Reliability and Maintenance Planning, Scheduling, and Material Coordination personnel.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to engage the team in improvement initiatives and assess the effectiveness of a structured maintenance organization.
- Maintain regular communication with work management personnel to ensure that equipment data, spare parts requirements, and preventive maintenance procedures are updated as needed based on changes to plant processes or configurations and constructive feedback from field personnel.
- Provide insights on budgetary needs for your area of responsibility to the Maintenance Manager.
- Participate in planned outage scheduling and lead the execution of activities for your area, working closely with the Operations group to ensure maintenance schedules align with production demands.
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of Career & Succession Plans (CSP) for yourself and your direct reports.
- Drive the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and adapt the team to the Vale Production System (VPS).
Qualifications
Education:
- Red Seal certification in a relevant maintenance trade, or a post-secondary degree in Engineering or a diploma in engineering technology.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is an asset.
Experience:
- At least 8 years of experience in maintenance and/or supervisory roles.
- Experience in Electrical and/or Instrumentation disciplines is preferred.
- Planning and/or scheduling, or work management experience is considered beneficial.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems (SAP preferred).
Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Teams.
- Understanding of basic report creation and utilization of reporting tools.
- Proven mentoring and coaching capabilities.
- Strong communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of risk and hazard management through the Safe Production model.
