About the Role

The Health Care Aide (HCA) is an integral member of our team, providing person-centered and quality care to our residents. Reporting to the Director of Care and/or designate, the HCA is responsible for delivering holistic care that respects the rights and dignity of our residents.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team.
  • Provide personal care services, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assisting with meals, oral hygiene, and other care duties as required.
  • Respond to call bells and alarms, and monitor residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
  • Utilize proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aids, such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
  • Assist with lifting and transferring residents, following established lifting and safety techniques.
  • Provide nutritional assistance, including meal service, tray service, and assisting residents to eat as needed.
  • Encourage resident participation in food service and clean-up.
  • Perform laundry services for residents' personal clothing as required.
  • Involve residents in organizing and maintaining their living environment, ensuring it meets their needs and preferences.
  • Attend and participate in community and education programs.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to provide high-quality care.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Graduate from a recognized Care Aide program.
  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate and Medication Administration Certification are assets.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care facility is an asset.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care.
  • Demonstrates collaborative and team-working skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Must be in good health, physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand, and walk as required.
