Job Summary

The Millwright is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing complex machinery and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, as well as excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and assemble machinery, using hoists, lift trucks, and hand tools
  • Relocate and position equipment, ensuring safe and efficient installation
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics to determine work procedures
  • Dismantle and repair machinery, using hammers, crowbars, and power tools
  • Construct foundations for new equipment, using building materials
  • Align machines and equipment during installation, using hoists and jacks
  • Use a lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to match specifications
  • Assemble machinery and equipment, bolting, welding, or fastening them to pre-built foundations
  • Diagnose and repair problems, often using screwdrivers, wrenches, and welding torches
  • Adhere to assembly and installation instructions, as outlined in vendor manuals and specifications
  • Repair problems associated with new equipment, and fabricate new machine parts as needed
  • Monitor and maintain working machines, cleaning, oiling, and greasing parts as required
  • Lead apprentices and direct them to ensure successful task completion
  • Ensure safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and equipment
  • Complete all paperwork as required

Requirements

  • Completion of a Red Seal valid Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification
  • Industrial Maintenance/Maintenance Millwright Technology college completion
  • Experience in moving, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing various types of machinery and equipment
  • Competent in detecting, isolating, and identifying irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment
  • Competent in fabricating new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul
  • Thorough knowledge of load bearing capabilities of the equipment to be installed, assembled, or dismembered
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications, mathematics
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with quality standards
  • Accurate and highly analytical
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring apprentices
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 100 lbs
  • Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools
  • Frequently noisy working environment
