Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Recreation Assistant and contribute to the well-being of our community.

VCH is seeking a dedicated Recreation Assistant to be part of the Adult Daycare team. This role is essential in enhancing the quality of life for our clients through engaging recreational activities.

Responsibilities of the Recreation Assistant include:

Collaborating within a team to implement recreation programs under the guidance of the Recreation Therapist. Assisting your team by: managing and supervising clients during outings, coordinating the transportation of clients to and from activities, demonstrating various recreational techniques, adapting activities to ensure clients can maintain their independence, providing guidance to volunteers, assessing and reporting on clients' engagement and progress to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team, organizing materials and equipment for scheduled activities, and keeping track of supplies and equipment inventory. May be required to operate a bus for transporting clients to community events, with a capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver).

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) may be necessary.

Skills & Competencies

Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to instruct and teach others. Strong organizational skills. Physical capability to fulfill the duties of the position. Proficiency in operating relevant equipment. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with others.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work location, may vary based on operational needs. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
