Position Overview
North Island College is in search of qualified candidates to undertake a sessional instructional role for the upcoming academic term:

- WST 100 Global Perspectives on Women, In-Person, Monday & Wednesday, 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Comox Valley Campus.

The teaching staff at North Island College is tasked with executing the institution's vision, goals, and objectives pertaining to education and learning.

To fulfill their teaching responsibilities, faculty members employ organizational abilities, interpersonal skills, and expertise in the subject matter, pedagogy, and curriculum design.

Additionally, they are expected to serve as exemplary role models for both students and colleagues.


The responsibilities and typical duties outlined below represent a general job description for teaching faculty, who may be responsible for delivering scheduled classes, supporting self-paced, online, and distance learning courses, and/or providing instruction and supervision in laboratories and practical workshops.

Duties & Responsibilities

1.0 INSTRUCTIONAL
  • To design and prepare educational materials for instructional settings;
  • To utilize diverse approaches and resources, as suitable, to cater to varying learning needs;
  • To instruct in designated subject areas and ensure all required content is included in courses and outlines;
  • To guide student learning in a supportive and nurturing environment;
  • To maintain regular availability for students during scheduled office and classroom hours to discuss their progress and other learning-related matters;
  • To clearly articulate learning outcomes for programs and courses, along with the evaluation methods;
  • To design and implement assessments or evaluations of students and keep them informed of their progress;
  • To submit grades promptly, adhering to institutional policies;
  • To maintain accurate records of student enrollment and performance, as well as other documentation required by the institution.
2.0 TYPICAL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY

  • To remain informed of, and operate within, institutional educational policies;
  • To understand the Education and Strategic plans and contribute to their development while assisting in achieving their goals;
  • To notify the Department Chair in a timely manner of necessary orders for books, supplies, and equipment to ensure adequate inventory for courses;
  • To provide guidance to the Department Chair regarding enrollment management strategies;
  • To inform the Department Chair and relevant administrators of any health and safety concerns and assist in addressing these issues;
  • To demonstrate proficiency in computer applications relevant to the educational environment;
  • To engage in continuous professional development to maintain competencies and qualifications in the relevant discipline;
  • To actively participate as a contributing member of the College community on committees and other institution-wide activities, as appropriate;
  • To attend department meetings and participate in departmental activities during regular working hours, when feasible;
  • To undertake additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the institution when course load permits.
Required Education & Experience
  • A Master's degree in Women's Studies or a related field;
  • A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in a postsecondary environment;
  • A BC Instructor Diploma or BC Teaching Certificate is highly desirable.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proven interpersonal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated instructional capabilities, including various creative and engaging methods to promote learning;
  • Experience in course design and delivery for diverse and inclusive educational settings;
  • Familiarity with educational technologies, including online and blended learning platforms.
