Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Energy Specialist to join our team at the City of Kelowna. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Energy Management Program, including gathering energy management-related information, analyzing data to identify opportunities and priorities, and project implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop business cases to support energy initiatives based on financial and statistical analysis.
  • Compile, maintain, and file energy management-related information, such as energy bills and reports, and analyze it to identify opportunities and priorities.
  • Develop, implement, and manage energy-related construction projects, including developing project specifications.
  • Conduct and document inventory checks on energy-related equipment within all corporate-owned facilities.
Engagement and Communication
  • Liaise with City staff, management, consultants, and FortisBC to influence changes within the City related to energy management.
  • Create and present success stories and case studies to stakeholders to showcase past successful projects.
  • Participate in Energy Committee meetings.
Reporting and Policy Development
  • Prepare and submit quarterly reports on program achievements.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on corporate energy reduction options.
  • Prepare and submit rebate and grant applications for energy-related projects.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3+ years of related work experience and a post-secondary degree or diploma in engineering or technology, or one or more of the following certifications: Certified Energy Manager (Canadian Institute for Energy Training), BCIT SEMAC (Sustainable Energy Management Associate Certificate), UBC Masters in Clean Energy (Energy Efficiency Module), Douglas College Building Energy and Resource Management program certificate, or Master's degree in sustainability and planning.

The successful candidate will also possess leadership, creativity, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, as well as knowledge of local government processes, legislation, and bylaws.
