Meridian Lightweight Technology is a leading global manufacturer of high-quality lightweight components. Our mission is to provide innovative solutions for the automotive industry, leveraging our expertise in magnesium and aluminum die casting.

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Director of Operations - North America will serve as a key member of our senior staff, responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities and operations within North America. This role will drive operational excellence, safety, people, quality, and cost efficiency through rigorous methodology, systems, tools, budgets, and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Participate in the design and implementation of our company's strategic direction, working closely with the CEO and senior staff.
  • Manufacturing Oversight: Oversee all plant managers' manufacturing activities, disseminating best practices and standardization across locations.
  • Operations Budgeting: Develop and implement annual operations budgets, ensuring manufacturing operations achieve budgeted profit results and other financial and operating criteria.
  • Customer Engagement: Interact with customers to address significant manufacturing issues and concerns, providing leadership and direction to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Performance Metrics: Develop key indicators of manufacturing performance, organizing operations to meet performance and cost reduction goals, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with the business development and corporate engineering function to evaluate new product initiatives and business opportunities.
  • Organizational Development: Develop and maintain a sound plan for effective organization in each facility, establishing policies to ensure manufacturing management development and capable management succession.
  • Compliance: Ensure all corporate activities and operations comply with local, state, provincial, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years progressive work experience, including supervisory, budget, engineering, business development, manufacturing, and project management experience.
  • Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of automotive manufacturing, with extensive high-pressure magnesium die casting experience an asset.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.

Personal Competencies:

  • Lean and Six Sigma: Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with all TPS/Lean and Six Sigma tools, including VSM, Standard Work, Pull Systems & Kanban, Cellular Manufacturing, Lean Management, 5S/Visual Management, 3P, SMED, TPM, Transactional Process Improvement, Variation Reduction & Six Sigma.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Solid root cause analysis and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Cultural Change: Demonstrated success influencing cultural change and being a motivational leader.
  • Communication: Outstanding communication skills across multicultural and expansive facilities.
  • Travel: Ability to travel to all company and customer global locations as needed to assess programs, developments, and support client relationships.
