Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Electrician to join our team at Halifax Water. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, instrumentation, and control system equipment in our water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of arc flash and electrical safety protocols, ensuring the safe operation of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Perform general care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipment, vehicles, personal protective equipment (PPE), and tools.
  • Utilize work management software to track daily tasks, schedule, and time allocation, ensuring accurate documentation of work history.
  • Read, interpret, and redline electrical drawings to ensure accurate installation and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Apply Canadian Electrical Code, NSPI Bulletins, and best practices to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Assist in the installation, start-up, and commissioning of new facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical malfunctions and failures, providing remediation measures as needed.
  • Recommend preventative electrical measures for future planning, scheduling, and budgeting, identifying high-risk electrical equipment.
  • Provide short-term and long-term electrical solutions to maintain operational infrastructure.
  • Work on electrical systems operating at low and high voltages, up to and including 4160V.
  • Perform installations, inspections, sequence of operations, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all electrical and control systems infrastructure.
  • Perform rotational standby duty, including after-hours work, unplanned, and emergency responses as per operational requirements.
Requirements
  • Grade twelve or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) equivalent.
  • Licensed Industrial Electrician with a certificate of qualification in an Industrial Electrician trade issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act.
  • One year of experience as a journeyman industrial or construction electrician in an industrial setting.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial power systems.
  • Current certificate of qualification as an Industrial or Construction Electrician issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.
  • Willingness to undertake and maintain safety training, including First Aid, Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and additional safety training as identified.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding, knowledge, and troubleshooting ability of industrial power distribution systems, controls, backup generators, and automation technology.
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, excavation sites, and hazardous locations.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment functions, such as pumps, compressors/blowers, motors, gear boxes, actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, and valves.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Canadian Electrical Code and best practices.
  • Understanding of hazardous and explosion-proof systems.
