Role Summary


As a Mental Health and Addictions Therapist within our Community Addiction Services, you will play a crucial role in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive services and programs to our clients.

Your responsibilities will include educating clients about addiction and recovery, as well as offering counseling to individuals and families facing substance use challenges in the designated regions.

Proficiency in the core functions of Addiction Counseling is essential. This role may encompass intake, screening, assessment, and referral processes; as well as individual, family, and group therapy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments related to substance use, gambling issues, and other relevant areas to inform treatment planning.
  • Provide individual counseling to facilitate the recovery of clients dealing with addiction and mental health issues.
  • Design and deliver psycho-educational workshops for clients in both individual and group settings.
  • Offer mentorship to volunteers, staff, and students by supporting their observational roles in group settings or supervising students.
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions.
  • Coordinate with referral sources and external organizations regarding client progress.
  • Assist in discharge planning by connecting clients with appropriate community resources.
  • Support clients in arranging outpatient counseling and follow-up services.
  • Provide family education and counseling services.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a recognized Social Sciences discipline with specialized training in addiction.
  • Membership in a regulatory college, such as CRPO or another recognized body (e.g., OCSWSSW, CNO).
  • Certification in Addiction Counseling (ICADC) is preferred, or a commitment to pursue credentialing.
  • Membership with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) in pursuit of relevant credentials.
  • Valid registration with the appropriate governing body in Ontario or in the process of obtaining relevant credentials.
  • Experience in both group and individual counseling, with skills in presenting to larger audiences.
  • Experience working directly with youth in various settings.
  • Experience in family counseling and engagement.
  • Familiarity with gambling issues and gaming technology is an asset.
  • Experience in coordinating client care with other service providers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemical dependence, gambling, and concurrent psychiatric disorders.
  • Experience with mood disorders is advantageous.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle, with the willingness to travel within designated regions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of addiction treatment across the care continuum.
  • Engaging, collaborative, and innovative approach, with sensitivity to client needs and adaptability.

  • Dedication to maintaining health and safety standards.
