The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of the Polar Epsilon (PE) 1 and 2 systems, which are essential for maritime domain awareness. These sophisticated systems provide ship detection reports from various sources, including SAR spatial data, AIS data, and Recognized Maritime Picture (RMP) imagery.

The PE systems support a wide range of operations, both domestically and internationally, encompassing the Arctic region, deployed land forces, and maritime assets. They deliver transformative global maritime domain knowledge to Canada and its allies.

Responsibilities
  • Execute Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS) tasks for existing equipment management.
  • Develop detailed specifications and item descriptions to meet mission support requirements.
  • Review in-service support contract deliverables and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality and effectiveness.
  • Provide expert technical support to the equipment life cycle manager, addressing capacity maintenance concerns, troubleshooting system failures, and minimizing downtime and data loss.
  • Collaborate effectively with system stakeholders to facilitate clear communication and coordinated efforts.
  • Participate actively in configuration control board activities, offering engineering expertise on complex technical issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive presentations and keep stakeholders and management informed about capacity maintenance plans, challenges, and potential risks.
  • Conduct thorough capacity maintenance-related risk analyses, including system modifications, refreshes, and upgrades. Provide valuable data to relevant authorities.
  • Review and analyze system change proposals, offering recommendations on system, antenna, infrastructure, and subsystem interface changes.
  • Provide technical expertise in system deficiency analysis and recommend cost-effective solutions to address identified issues.
  • Conduct and assist with system integration testing and evaluation to ensure optimal performance and functionality.
  • Contribute meaningfully to project implementation phases from a capacity maintenance perspective.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • A degree in engineering or science from a recognized Canadian university or an accredited non-Canadian university in Canada; or a degree or certificate of at least two years from a recognized college in an Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) field.
  • A professional engineering license issued by a professional engineering self-regulatory body in Canadian provinces.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the last 20 years as a satellite communications specialist.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the last 10 years in drafting technical documents (e.g., statement of work, analysis report, technical specifications) for IM/IT projects valued at 5 million CAD or more.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the last 20 years in satellite system technical design, testing, or design and development analysis.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the last 10 years in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) or In-Service Support (ISS) activities.
