Position Overview: Registered Nurse (RN) in Oncology

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse in our Oncology Clinic is dedicated to delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients navigating their cancer treatment journey. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including patient assessment, symptom management, treatment coordination, and patient education, all aligned with established healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care to oncology patients, including thorough assessments, history reviews, and the development of tailored nursing care plans that consider the patient's unique psychosocial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, their families, and multidisciplinary teams to create and adjust treatment plans based on ongoing assessments and patient progress.
  • Administer medications, injections, blood products, and IV fluids as dictated by the care plan, while monitoring patient responses and determining when to consult with physicians.
  • Maintain accurate patient records by documenting health histories, nursing assessments, and patient communications, as well as managing symptoms and side effects.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Assist patients in understanding their care plans and refer them to additional healthcare professionals and community resources as necessary.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN.
  • Valid CPR (Level C) certification.
  • At least one year of relevant nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to apply it effectively in practice.
  • Proficient in utilizing clinical technology to enhance patient care.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize patient care efficiently.
  • Commitment to understanding and promoting Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation efforts.
