Job Overview

Salary Range - $40,000 - $45,000

As a Warehouse Material Handler, your primary responsibilities will include the selection, packaging, and dispatching of customer orders, alongside the verification, reception, and storage of incoming vendor supplies and customer returns. Proficient operation of our telehandler/forklift and maintaining a tidy, organized yard and warehouse will be crucial to your role. A keen attention to detail will be vital in ensuring outstanding levels of customer service and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations while executing job duties
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles, operate forklift/telehandler, and utilize other material handling equipment
  • Conduct snow removal using onsite machinery
  • Perform occasional local deliveries using company vehicles
  • Receiving tasks include: Upon unloading vendor shipments or customer returns, collect the packing slip and confirm the materials received. Document any discrepancies or damaged items. Print and verify the computer receiving documents and log materials received into the system. Identify special order items and damaged goods, ensuring they are stored correctly. Record all shipping discrepancies on the freight carrier's Bill of Lading, initiate freight claims, and forward necessary paperwork to the appropriate team member.
  • Picking, packing, and shipping responsibilities include: Selecting materials for customer orders, counting and verifying items against shipping documentation. Assemble and package materials appropriately for pickup or shipment to customers, which may involve using power tools to construct crates and supports for shipments. Complete documentation for any shipments requiring third-party carriers or Transportation of Dangerous Goods documentation.
  • Notify the Supervisor of any inventory discrepancies and damaged or defective materials that could affect customer service.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the warehouse and yard, ensuring materials are organized and safe by removing empty cartons, metal banding, pallets, and other debris.
  • Communicate with the Health and Safety representative and/or Profit Centre Manager regarding any safety concerns within the warehouse.
  • Assist colleagues in providing customer service at the counter.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Profit Centre Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education is an asset
  • At least 1 year of experience in a warehouse environment
  • Experience in construction is an asset
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop thorough product knowledge
  • Capability to learn and safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in processing orders
  • Ability to learn and utilize the relevant software systems for order processing
  • Intermediate mathematical skills
  • Must provide a driver’s abstract

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience or knowledge of plumbing and building products
  • Familiarity with inventory management software, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
