Unit Summary

The PICU at McMaster Children's Hospital is a state-of-the-art department providing specialized care to children with complex medical, surgical, oncologic, and traumatic problems. Our team of experts works collaboratively to provide family-centered care, utilizing evidence-based best practices and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric critical care through expert clinical practice. As a key member of the interprofessional PICU team, the Nurse Practitioner will manage and coordinate the full spectrum of patient care activities in both level 2 and level 3 Pediatric Critical Care Units.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct clinical care to critically ill pediatric patients
  • Manage and coordinate patient care activities in collaboration with the interprofessional team
  • Develop and implement medical directives
  • Participate in education, research, quality improvement, and leadership initiatives
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care
Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Registration in the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse Extended Class RN(EC)
  • Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing, with an Advanced Practice Nurse Certificate in Pediatrics (NP-Pediatrics)
  • Minimum of 4-6 years recent pediatric nursing experience, with experience in a pediatric critical care unit preferred
  • Proficiency in performing history and physical examination of infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents
  • Ability to triage and independently manage acute medical emergencies in pediatric patients
