Circulation Assistant (Regular, Part-Time)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Circulation Assistant. As a key member of our public service team, you will provide exceptional front-line service in the circulation section of the library, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our patrons.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Check in and out library materials using automated library software
  • Deal with customer accounts and new customer registrations
  • Use RFID technology to efficiently manage library materials
  • Handle monetary transactions and process payments
  • Sort and file library materials, ensuring accurate and efficient storage
  • Process new materials and promote library services to patrons
  • Answer general and directional questions in person and over the phone

Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation (Grade 12)
  • Some knowledge of the library and its functions and procedures
  • Minimum six months of related experience, preferably in customer service or a similar role
  • Strong service commitment, flexibility, and willingness to assume a variety of assignments
  • Personable, with a desire to continually learn and improve
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with customers and colleagues
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and deal with difficult customer interactions
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload to ensure efficiency
  • Solution-oriented and self-motivated
  • Experience working with computers, including proficient keyboarding skills
  • Ability to sort and file alphanumerically
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including lifting and carrying books, pushing and pulling carts, and standing for extended periods
