Job Title: Preventive Dental Assistant

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Preventive Dental Assistant to join our team at Nursing & Homemakers Inc.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing patients for dental examinations, preparing plaster models and moulds, and supervising dental assistants in their health care functions. Additionally, they will train other dental laboratory assistants, cast gold or metal alloys for bridges and denture bases, and perform administrative functions for the dental laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for dental examinations and procedures
  • Prepare plaster models and moulds for dental restorations
  • Supervise dental assistants in their health care functions
  • Train other dental laboratory assistants
  • Cast gold or metal alloys for bridges and denture bases
  • Perform administrative functions for the dental laboratory
  • Prepare dental instruments and filling materials
  • Maintain and order supplies
  • Mould wax over dentures set-up
  • Perform reception and clerical duties
  • Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment
  • Educate patients concerning oral hygiene
  • Supervise students in training
  • Prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays
  • Schedule and confirm appointments
  • Pack plastic material in moulds to form full or partial dentures
  • Perform intra-oral duties
  • Take and develop X-rays
  • Record dental procedures performed on patients
  • Invoice patients for dental services
  • Polish and buff dentures
  • Fabricate and place temporary crowns and restorations
  • Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts
Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of experience in a dental laboratory or related field
  • Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board
  • Technical expertise in polishing and casting
  • Computer and technology knowledge in MS Excel and MS Word
  • Security and safety certifications
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail
  • Ability to distinguish between colours
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Client focus and efficient interpersonal skills
