Substation Electrician Apprentice

Burlington Hydro Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Substation Electrician Apprentice to join our team. As a key member of our Station Maintenance department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our substation equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of substation equipment, including electrical and mechanical testing.
- Conduct routine equipment maintenance, such as breakers, protection relays, battery chargers, and batteries.
- Investigate and troubleshoot substation faults and failures, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Install, maintain, and repair AC and DC substation service systems, and test and maintain distribution transformers.
- Collect and analyze substation data, and maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance and performance.
- Perform cable testing, cable locating, and fault locating of underground plant, and assist in emergency and on-call situations as required.
- Recalibrate protective devices, substation SCADA, and System Intelligent Devices, and configure system networks.
- Review and revise related electrical and mechanical prints, drawings, and diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma program from a Community College or equivalent work experience.
- Possess and maintain a valid G Class Ontario Drivers' License with a clean abstract.
- Ability to complete the MEARIE Substation Electrician certification program requirements.
- Proficiency in interpreting work orders, specifications, standards, and blueprints/drawings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent reading comprehension and mathematical abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels and provide positive interactions with the public.
- Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness essential for the demands of the job, including the ability to confidently work at heights, climb structures, and perform tasks in confined spaces.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications, with the ability to adapt to new software and systems; familiarity with AutoCAD is an asset.
- Proven commitment to safety and maintaining a strong attendance record.
