Site Superintendent Job Description

Abstract Developments is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee construction projects and ensure timely completion within the development and design intent.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to meet project objectives.
  • Collaborate with development managers, project managers, and sales teams to ensure project quality and compliance with Abstract standards.
  • Monitor construction budgets, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to maintain project efficiency.
  • Provide weekly project updates to senior superintendents and project managers.
  • Conduct daily site inspections, weekly safety inspections, and bi-weekly meetings with consultants and owners.
  • Maintain a daily diary recording work progress, weather, and temperature.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and bylaws to prevent fines and interruptions.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by enforcing safety standards and procedures.
  • Implement and manage the master construction schedule, updating it monthly with project managers.
  • Coordinate construction sequencing, issue RFIs, and manage consultant responses.
  • Write purchase orders and reconcile invoices with the accounting department.
  • Track site staff time and labor costs.
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC and Abstract Safety manual.
  • Provide leadership to site staff, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Promote Abstract Core Values and attend company-sponsored events.
  • Coordinate design drawings and specifications between design disciplines and sales customizations.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience as a field worker or supervisor on construction projects.
  • Preference for those with wood-framed, multi-family, or developer experience.
  • Recent experience and proficiency in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Knowledge of construction management tools and techniques.
  • Formal certification such as RSE, GSC, AScT, or P. Eng is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
  • Self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
  • Proficiency in site logistics and critical path management.
  • Highly organized with effective managerial, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to estimate materials and use power and hand tools.
  • Computer literate with Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, and Jonas.
  • Independent, proactive, and analytical thinker.
  • Comfortable in office and site settings.
Work Schedule:

The Site Superintendent works full-time, usually between 7am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, and is required to be available outside regular working hours in case of a site emergency.
