Job Summary

We are seeking a Support Staff to join our team at EHN Canada. The successful candidate will provide support to our clinical staff and patients, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with daily living activities, such as making beds and cleaning.
  • Prepare discharge summaries and facilitate newcomers' groups.
  • Participate in therapeutic and community meetings, addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
  • Monitor patient attendance and provide support when needed.
  • Drive patients as required and provide emotional support during times of distress.
  • Monitor patients' computer and phone use, as directed by clinical staff.
  • Conduct regular rounds of the facility, checking on patients and reporting any unusual incidents.
  • Support patients and clinical staff with signing out and recording personal effects.
  • Assist the admissions department as needed.
  • Wash patient clothing and ensure that washing and drying instructions are followed.
  • Support clinical staff with patient discharges.
  • Keep up-to-date progress notes as required.
  • Manage the white book effectively and ensure it is up-to-date.
  • Monitor patient activities when clinical staff are not present and ensure they are conducted according to facility procedures.
  • Ensure the facility and patients are secure after daily activities have been completed.
  • Lock offices and group rooms after regular business hours.
  • Notify on-call management staff or the Medical Director in the event of an emergency or unusual circumstance.
  • Document significant occurrences and a general impression of activities during the shift.
  • Participate in case consultation and treatment coordination with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Administer first aid, if trained, in case of emergency.
  • Perform housekeeping and clerical tasks as listed on the duty roster.
  • Answer the phone and handle calls as instructed.
  • Participate in in-service workshops as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Support Staff Supervisor and/or Management.

Work Schedule

Support staff hours consist of up to 8 hour shifts, to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Hours of work are required 24 hours, 7 days a week, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Support staff receives a ½ hour paid break during a shift of 5 hours or more.

Requirements

  • Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program, such as the Community Health Worker Program, or experience in a related field.
  • Trauma-informed training or experience is an asset.
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent diploma.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Good hearing and eyesight.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Level C.
  • Clear Criminal record check through the Ministry of Justice.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
