Job Summary:

First Student Canada-Transco is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Transit Driver to join our team in Orillia and Midland. As a Transit Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting passengers and maintaining the appearance of the interior of the bus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive a transit vehicle in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout the contracted service area within a daily assigned time schedule.
  • Maintain a strong attendance record and perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections as required.
  • Stop at designated points to load and/or unload passengers and assist in the boarding of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
  • Notify dispatch of deviations, overload, accidents, passenger incidents, medical/behavioral problems, or bus mechanical/electrical trouble.
  • Assure that fares are deposited into the fare box and dispense information to passengers.
  • Complete and submit written reports concerning passengers and all accidents.
  • Operate on-board computer destination signs and assume any and all other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Class BZ or CZ driving license, clear driver abstract, background check, First Aid, and Transit Experience an asset.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet strict timelines, and work rotating shift hours and days assigned including weekends.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with passengers and dispatchers/road supervisors, and possess excellent or corrected vision to allow operator to have the ability to read and comprehend written material.

Working Conditions:

  • Subject to wet, cold, and/or hot environmental conditions.
  • Subject to a low risk of injury due to vehicle accident, mechanical failure, fire, and/or explosion.
  • Subject to vehicle noise and vibration while operating transit vehicle.
  • Subject to vehicle exhaust fumes and odors, road dusts, and mist.
