What is the opportunity?

The Accounting Policy Manager plays a vital role within the Accounting Policy team, providing support to various stakeholders across the organization in understanding and implementing IFRS standards. This position is crucial for the development, dissemination, and maintenance of RBC's corporate accounting policies. As a member of the Chief Accountant's Group, you will engage in a collaborative team environment that encourages continuous improvement, innovative thinking, and collective achievement.

The Accounting Policy function is essential in delivering strategic advice on complex accounting matters. We act as trusted advisors, assessing the accounting implications for RBC's operations, facilitating the implementation of accounting policies, structuring transactions for optimal outcomes, and actively participating in industry discussions on significant issues. Additionally, we contribute to communicating RBC's financial performance to the public through various reporting documents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and oversee new business initiatives, ensuring that accounting considerations are adequately addressed while collaborating with key stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Offer accounting advisory services for business unit transactions and assist in the implementation of new and revised accounting standards.
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of RBC's corporate accounting policies in alignment with IFRS and U.S. GAAP, including updating stakeholders on new developments.
  • Play a key role in the quarterly external reporting process, managing the preparation and delivery of essential reporting elements, including reviewing and drafting quarterly and annual disclosures, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and quality of disclosures.
  • Support the organization in evaluating and responding to new disclosure and regulatory requirements affecting RBC's external reporting.
  • Coordinate with external and internal auditors on financial accounting and reporting policy matters as necessary.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere, bringing your unique insights and curiosity to set ambitious goals and drive process enhancements.

Qualifications for Success

Essential Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in an accounting or policy-related role, with a strong technical foundation in IFRS.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively conveying information to executives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and lead independently while knowing when to seek assistance.
  • A genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn new methodologies, a willingness to challenge existing processes, and the ability to drive improvements and efficiencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as a change agent, facilitator, and collaborator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the banking sector is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with current U.S. GAAP is a plus.
