About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geologist 4 to join our team in the Geological Survey Division. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a strong background in bedrock geology and mapping to contribute to our province's geological knowledge and expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute field-based geological mapping and surveys to collect, interpret, and publish scientific data and detailed information on the bedrock geology of Nova Scotia.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to operational groups and offer leadership and guidance to staff, students, and stakeholders.
  • Complete the provincial bedrock mapping project and produce a comprehensive updated provincial bedrock map.
  • Utilize advanced mapping tools, GIS software, and other technological solutions to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of bedrock mapping activities.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Earth Science or Geoscience, with emphasis on knowledge in several areas including structural geology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, mineralogy, field geology, GIS, geochemistry, and geomorphology.
  • At least 7 years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of geoscience and the geology of Nova Scotia.
  • Proven record of designing and executing successful field programs and publishing scientific and technical reports and maps.
  • Highly developed oral and writing communication skills, as well as strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and collaborate with and effectively supervise, advise, and/or assist other scientists.
  • Registration with Geoscientists Nova Scotia or eligibility for registration.
