Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the procurement of after school care supplies and materials.
  • Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to fellow childcare staff.
  • Ensure compliance of the After School Care initiative with relevant laws, procedures, and standards, including health, safety, and safeguarding regulations.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate recreational activities, ensuring they are conducted in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Coordinate the schedule for collecting and escorting students from classrooms to after school care areas.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative relationship with teaching staff.
  • Maintain precise records and reports related to enrollment, behavior, and incidents.
  • Monitor resource utilization to ensure the After School Care initiative operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the successful operation of the program.
  • Engage directly with students on an individual basis.
  • Interact with small or large groups of children in an engaging and supportive manner.
  • Utilize available resources (activities and games) to actively involve students.
  • Collaborate positively as part of the entire after school care team.
  • Report to the designated school principal.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records as required by health authorities.

This position requires working hours beyond standard school hours, including evening events, occasional offsite documentation of student programs, and potential morning and weekend commitments.

Job Information

  • Part-time contract position.
  • Work location: on-site.
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, afternoons.

Required Qualifications and Key Skills

Education & Work Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary education in Recreation, Childcare, or related fields.
  • Completion of a Responsible Adult Certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in childcare or program development.
  • Valid First Aid Certification.
  • Experience in managing diverse children's behaviors.

Qualities and Skills

  • Exceptional client service and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated judgment and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and capable of working independently.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Conditions of Employment

  • Completion of child abuse prevention training and first aid training is required.
  • Clearance on a criminal record check for vulnerable sectors is mandatory.
