Job Title: Intermediate Protection and Control Technologist

Spark Power, a leading provider of end-to-end electrical services, is seeking a skilled Intermediate Protection and Control Technologist to join our Alberta team.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing programming, testing, and verification of protection and control devices in the field. This role requires strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills to interface with clients and construction crews.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D, and ABB.
  • Maintain or commission power distribution equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches, and instrument transformers.
  • Be familiar with industry-specific codes and standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).
  • Ability and willingness to travel 70-80% of the time for out-of-town commissioning or maintenance projects.
  • Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.
  • Coordinate day-to-day functions on a job-by-job basis, ensuring compliance with all health and safety standards and regulations.
Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of experience in P&C
  • 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (from NAIT or SAIT) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
