Chemotherapy Waitlist Nurse Coordinator

As an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, the Chemotherapy Waitlist Nurse Coordinator is responsible for managing the scheduling of patients within the Ambulatory Chemotherapy Care Unit (ACCU) at the designated BC Cancer Centre, aiming to enhance treatment delivery efficiency. This role involves maintaining patient wait time standards, overseeing and validating the patient waitlist and their statuses in the Cerner system, and reporting relevant metrics to Senior Leadership as necessary.

The Nurse Coordinator will triage incoming patient requests, supervise the Clerical Booking Team, and collaborate with various BC Cancer Healthcare Professionals, including medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, and other ACCU leadership, to ensure timely and suitable access to systemic therapy treatments for patients.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor, track, and validate the patient waitlist in the ACCU, engaging the multidisciplinary team as needed to facilitate the triage of both existing and new chemotherapy patients. Report waitlist metrics to Senior Leadership as required. Responsible for optimizing schedules using Chemo SmartBook, developing and supporting booking guidelines, and ensuring timely access to ACCU for clinical trial patients. Coordinate the triage and prioritization of clients for appointments within the ACCU based on booking criteria, clinical status, and provider requests. This includes reviewing referral documents, screening for additional relevant information, and liaising with clinicians as necessary. Supervise and guide the clerical booking team in ACCU, ensuring patients receive adequate notice of upcoming appointments and lab tests, in line with ACCU standard practices. Conduct clinical quality assurance (QA) for patients awaiting chemotherapy appointments as per departmental standards, collaborating with providers for necessary remediation. Utilize clinical nursing expertise to identify and communicate clinical, psychosocial, or other concerns to the multidisciplinary team. Follow up with patients and/or community resources to ensure all necessary reports and test results are obtained prior to chemotherapy treatment. Provide necessary support to the ACCU clinical team to ensure optimal systemic therapy care for patients.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM). A minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant clinical nursing experience, including teaching and leadership roles, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Commitment to fostering reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. Understanding of the social, economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities, along with familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives.
