About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Therapist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to adults with Tier-3 mental disorders and Substance Use Disorders.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline and current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body. You will have a minimum of two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning.

You will be expected to act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and profession. You will convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline
  • Current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body
  • Minimum two years' related experience
  • In-depth understanding of the principles of harm reduction, the dynamics of addiction, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho-educational groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision, and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information and implementing family-sensitive services
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The successful candidate will be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
