Overview

The Team
The Consumer Taxation Audit Branch (CTAB) plays a crucial role in ensuring tax compliance throughout British Columbia. The audit team in Mississauga is one of several teams operating across the province and Ontario. CTAB is responsible for conducting audits under various acts related to the province's consumption tax systems, thereby fostering a fair business environment. The branch promotes a workplace culture that values individual strengths and encourages professional growth.

Your Role
As a Tax Auditor within the Consumer Taxation Audit Branch (CTAB), your primary responsibility will be to plan and execute tax audits for businesses operating in British Columbia. You will receive comprehensive training to assist you in determining tax liabilities, proposing audit assessments, and finalizing agreements with taxpayers regarding these assessments. Additionally, your role will involve identifying and recovering unpaid provincial revenues, which are essential for funding education, healthcare, social services, and other public needs in British Columbia.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a professional accounting designation (CPA - CA, CGA, CMA) from a recognized Canadian Accounting Association, along with a minimum of two years of audit or accounting experience.

Note: If your designation was obtained outside of Canada, it must be assessed for equivalency by an applicable Canadian Accounting Association to be considered. Proof of equivalency must be provided by the application deadline.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including skills in working with pivot tables, managing multiple worksheets, and performing data analysis tasks.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license (BC) or equivalent (Ontario Class G) is required, with no learner's restrictions.

  • Willingness to travel outside the province for initial training may be necessary.

About the Position
Currently, multiple positions are available in Mississauga, Ontario. Successful candidates must reside in Ontario at the time of employment. Flexible work arrangements are available, allowing for remote work up to five days a week, subject to an approved telework agreement. An eligibility list may be created to fill future permanent vacancies. This position is not part of union membership. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required. Employees of the Government of British Columbia must be located in BC at the time of employment.
