Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Medical Technologist to join the Clinical Laboratory in Bella Bella. As a Medical Technologist with VCH, you will work in a team-based environment and under general supervision of the Medical Technologist 3 or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within a designated laboratory area.
Key Responsibilities- Collect and/or receive specimens, enter data into a computerized laboratory system, validate and report test results, maintain instruments and prepare solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
- Participate in departmental training programs in chemistry, haematology, blood transfusion and other related areas with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.
- Work independently and in collaboration with others to establish workload priorities and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Bella Bella is a beautiful island community off the central coast of British Columbia, 690 km north of Vancouver. It is surrounded by a magical world of channels, inlets and old growth forest. The Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella has 7 acute beds, 7 long term care beds and a 4-bed emergency department open 24/7, along with Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging services.
Requirements- Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and basic core laboratory training.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques including quality control.
- Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, work under pressure in a constantly changing environment, and communicate effectively.
