Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Dalhousie University Full time

Department/Unit: Pediatrics

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

About the Opportunity:

The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre is seeking a part-time neonatologist to join a distinguished team of seven academic professionals.

The IWK Health Centre serves as a premier academic tertiary care facility specializing in pediatric and maternal health. It functions as the primary perinatal center for Nova Scotia and is the designated pediatric referral hub for the Maritime Provinces, including exclusive pediatric surgical services.

The neonatologist will engage in clinical practice as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team within the 40-bed combined Level II/III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This state-of-the-art facility features a recently renovated single-family room care environment, ensuring optimal patient care.

Support services include Obstetrical and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, a comprehensive range of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties, advanced diagnostic imaging, and laboratory resources. The Reproductive Care Program of Nova Scotia, recognized as one of the leading regional perinatal programs in North America, is closely linked with our division. Additionally, the Perinatal Follow-Up Program offers extensive long-term follow-up for selected infants.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity to cultivate an academic career within a well-supported funding framework. The multidisciplinary research environment, which includes the Nova Scotia Atlee Perinatal Database and the Perinatal Epidemiology Research Unit, provides a wealth of population-based data for clinical audits and research initiatives.

Educational contributions are encouraged, particularly through involvement in Dalhousie University's Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Residency Program, fostering a dynamic clinical and academic atmosphere.

Applicants should possess an MD degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, along with completed specialty training and certification in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (or equivalent). Eligibility for medical licensure in Nova Scotia is required. Preference will be granted to candidates demonstrating prior productivity and the potential for future academic contributions.

Halifax, as the largest city in Atlantic Canada, offers a vibrant maritime lifestyle with numerous desirable living areas conveniently located near Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre, allowing for a diverse range of leisure activities.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a current CV along with a statement detailing their academic, teaching, and research interests. Additionally, please provide the names and contact information for three referees, two of whom must be academic.
