Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Junior Actuarial Consultant to join our dynamic team at Alberta Pensions Services Corporation. This full-time, permanent role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our Actuarial Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and address the needs of both internal and external stakeholders, considering the financial and administrative implications of various options, compliance, risk, design, and functionality.
- Apply actuarial standards and methodologies in developing policy alternatives related to administrative or pension plan design challenges.
- Develop and sustain high-quality tools, processes, and methodologies to analyze and mitigate risks, leveraging data analytics where applicable.
- Lead initiatives with minimal supervision, establishing the framework and steps necessary for new projects.
- Enhance understanding of pension and actuarial principles across different business sectors by clarifying their purpose and significance.
- Collaborate with Actuarial Services and other departments to provide recommendations aimed at reducing risk and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Conduct independent validations of calculations to detect system and process discrepancies.
- Coordinate with pension plan actuaries to ensure they have the necessary data for actuarial evaluations.
- Guarantee the precise implementation and certification of online estimators following plan adjustments or changes in assumptions.
- Foster strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Offer support to external agencies that may require actuarial assistance.
- Stay informed about actuarial standards, legislation, and pension plan regulations to effectively manage risks.
Qualifications:
- Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (ACIA) designation.
- A university degree with a focus on actuarial science and a minimum of 10 years of experience in defined benefit pension plans.
- In-depth knowledge of complex areas related to defined benefit pension plans, including legislation, administration, risk management, and actuarial practices.
- Exceptional project management abilities, capable of creating new project frameworks without existing references.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, encompassing verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation capabilities.
- Proven track record of effective teamwork and independent work as required.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft Office applications, including Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience with data analytics is considered an asset.
