Job Summary

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled Utility Operator 2 to join our Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating various equipment, responding to public hazards, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a range of equipment, including 3-ton trucks, compactor trucks, and service trucks, in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Respond to and eliminate public hazards, such as removing deceased animals from the right of way and removing debris from motor vehicle collisions.
  • Monitor a service phone and communicate with the corporate call center.
  • Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License with air brake endorsement.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience operating vehicles with a capacity greater than 3000 kg G.V.W.
  • Good driving record.
  • Compactor Truck qualified or willing to obtain within 30 days of being awarded the position.
  • Service Truck Operator trained or willing to obtain within one week of being awarded the position.
  • Good attendance and work record.
  • WHMIS, CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to successfully complete.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in various locations, both indoors and outdoors, in various working conditions. They must be able to work with minimal supervision and be willing to attend employer-directed training.

Halifax Regional Municipality offers a competitive salary of $26.97 per hour, as per the CUPE Local 108 Collective Agreement. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional growth and development.
