Job Summary

The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled labourer to fill the position of Utility Operator 2 in the Parks division of Parks & Recreation. This is a permanent, full-time position that requires a wide range of skilled labour duties in various locations indoors and outdoors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate light vehicles and equipment, such as dump trucks, utility vehicles, and articulated loaders.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials.
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned tools and equipment.
  • Work safely and cooperatively with other classifications.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the public, teammates, and management.
  • Complete daily work-related written reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within Parks.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related work experience.
  • Must be willing to obtain utility tractor qualification.
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License Class 5 with a condition 15 endorsement.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good attendance and work record.
  • Working knowledge of methods, material, and equipment usage involved in municipal operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • WHMIS and CPR/First Aid certification.
Working Conditions

The Utility Operator 2 will be involved in activities that involve noise, vibrations, dust, and fumes. The work environment may include industry-acceptable levels of dust, fumes, noise, etc.

Security Clearance

Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Work Status and Hours

This is a permanent, full-time position with regular hours of work from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, for 40 hours per week.

Salary

The salary for this position is $26.97 per hour, as per the CUPE 108 Collective Agreement.
