About the Role

The Senior Legal Counsel will be a key member of the Legal Services & Governance Division, reporting to the Associate General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. This role will provide strategic legal advice and support to internal clients across various operational divisions, driving business growth and minimizing risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, high-quality, and business-focused legal advice on a wide range of operational and corporate matters.
  • Identify and manage operational and corporate governance-related legal risk, aligning with HOOPP's risk tolerance.
  • Develop and maintain precedents and resources to reflect relevant changes and best practices.
  • Engage and coordinate external legal counsel to resolve legal issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging legal issues, monitoring and maintaining knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, and common law.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to business partners on relevant legal topics and best practices.

Requirements

  • Law Degree from an accredited law school or to the Ontario bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a law firm, government organization, or corporate environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in relevant areas of law, with demonstrated thought leadership.
  • Strong work ethic and drive, with a commitment to providing excellent client service.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment, with excellent interpersonal skills and negotiation skills.
