AVP, Group Underwriting

At Equitable Life of Canada, we are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Group Underwriting team. As an AVP, Group Underwriting, you will be responsible for developing and implementing underwriting guidelines, practices, and procedures that balance risk assessment with business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of effective new business and renewal underwriting activities, working closely with the Group Sales and other Group departments to attract, implement, and retain Group clients.
  • Coach, develop, and provide on-going guidance to a team of six managers and their staff, continuously advancing a strong employee engagement environment.
  • Oversee large case underwriting decisions and collaborate with external reinsurance partners to support the growth of the business.
  • Maintain all service and quality metrics for underwriting, client support, and client on-boarding.
  • Establish and manage team operational budgets and business growth investments.
  • Participate and provide on-going input to the development of the Group business strategic plan.
Requirements:
  • 15+ years of in-depth Group underwriting knowledge and experience.
  • Exceptional knowledge of group benefits and understanding of business & market implications.
  • Proven ability to balance decision making to attract, retain, and renew business.
  • A strong background in process management, preferably in a client-facing environment requiring strong attention to details and experience in sponsoring process improvement initiatives.
  • A collaborative and influential leader who is credible and builds and maintains an environment of trust with internal teams, sales partners, and external distribution relationships.
