Under the guidance of the Casework Supervisor, the Remote Support Specialist is tasked with managing and executing all facets of remote casework, which includes Intake, Needs Assessment, and Case Management. This role involves offering support, information, education, and referrals to clients while fostering a relationship that promotes client autonomy. The Remote Support Specialist will cater to clients in British Columbia, Alberta, and other western provinces as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CASE MANAGEMENT
- Intake & Needs Assessments
- Evaluate potential clients for intake appropriateness as directed by the Casework Supervisor.
- Engage in the selection and admission process for clients into suitable programs.
- Analyze client background information, conduct interviews to gather case history, and prepare intake documentation.
- Perform a comprehensive review of documents and application forms to ensure completeness.
- Assess immediate client needs and document action plans in the CRM system.
- Inform clients of various options and resources available to address their needs.
- Guide clients in formulating and executing a six-month action plan.
- Provide essential support and assistance to clients to ensure the successful implementation of their action plans.
- Referrals
- Compile potential resources for clients on the west coast.
- Offer informed referrals based on specific client needs and support them during the connection process.
- Case Closure
- Encourage and assist clients in achieving their goals, such as sustainable housing, employment, education, or financial stability.
- Support clients in accessing various community or governmental programs related to housing, welfare, childcare, child benefits, disability, and language training.
CLIENT SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
- Maintain regular communication with clients to evaluate their progress, provide emotional support, and assist with goal setting and problem-solving.
- Advocate for clients' needs with other community and governmental organizations.
- Keep a daily written log of client activities.
REPORTING
- Provide consistent updates on client progress to the casework supervisor.
- Maintain accurate case notes, resident records, documents, forms, and statistical data.
- Participate in meetings for residents transitioning out of the program to ensure a smooth handover to the remote caseworker.
- Engage in monthly casework meetings and national staff meetings as required.
AD HOC
- Assist with intakes on a regular basis as needed for various city teams.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A degree or diploma in a relevant human/social service field such as Social Work or Child and Youth Care Work, along with one (1) year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
- Familiarity with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is required.
- Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance.
- Awareness of personal triggers and commitment to personal wellness.
- Understanding of the stresses associated with the position and adherence to a self-care action plan.
- Respect for clients' rights to their own values, beliefs, culture, and choices.
- Utilization of empathy and a client-centered approach when working with women and children.
- Understanding of the cycle of abuse and the misuse of power and control.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
