About the Role

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join the team at Hilltop House Long Term Care Facility in Squamish, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a team-based environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.
  • Perform duties including organizing and overseeing patients/clients/residents on outings, coordinating the portering of patients/clients/residents to and from the activity, demonstrating techniques of recreation activities, and carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities.
  • Provide functional direction to volunteers and evaluate and report relevant observations of patient's/client's/resident's progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team.
  • Organize furnishings and equipment for designated activities and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Operate a bus with a passenger seating capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver) to transport patients/clients/residents to and from community participation activities as required by site/program.

About Hilltop House

Hilltop House is a 86-bed long term care facility for seniors with complex needs, providing home-like care for its permanent residents, as well as respite care, a community bathing program, and adult day care for seniors.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) may be required.
