Job Summary:
The Indigenous Relations Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for Indigenous communities and members on the 264th Street Interchange Project. This role requires strong organizational and time management skills, as well as excellent communication and relationship building abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with Indigenous communities;
- Collaborate with Indigenous communities to develop and implement the Indigenous Participation Plan;
- Participate in meetings with Indigenous communities;
- Assist construction and procurement teams in identifying employment, training, and subcontracting opportunities and engage with local Indigenous communities to ensure timely notification;
- Facilitate delivery of Indigenous cultural sensitivity and/or awareness training for the project;
- Engage with Indigenous communities and complete regular check-ins to discuss employment and training opportunities;
- Work with Indigenous communities, ISETs, and other Indigenous organizations to identify and leverage training opportunities;
- Participate in community activities promoting cross-cultural engagement and inclusion of Indigenous values;
- Promote local Indigenous values and foster a positive workplace culture aligning with these values.
Reporting and Tracking:
- Undertake tracking and reporting on the implementation of the Indigenous Participation Plan;
- Update the Indigenous Participation Plan in collaboration with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Relations, geography, archeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, business administration, or a related field;
- Minimum of five years of recent experience in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with Indigenous groups and working with Indigenous groups to provide contracting, employment, and/or training opportunities;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Other Requirements:
- Regular, reliable attendance;
- Ability to work productively and meet deadlines;
- Effective communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment;
- Ability to perform work safely and effectively, understanding and following oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies;
- Ability to work during normal operating hours, organize and complete work within given deadlines, and work overtime and weekends as required.
