Job Title: Senior Estimator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team at Kiewit. As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for developing detailed cost estimates for large, complex projects. You will work closely with our project teams to ensure that estimates are accurate and comprehensive, and that they meet the needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs, including highways, bridges, mass transit, and hydroelectric power generation projects.
  • Supervise estimators in the preparation of check estimates for other work, review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine completeness of data used, procedures, and aid in resolving differences in bid items.
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project, and develop a plan for the actual construction to serve as the basis for the estimate.
  • Conduct site investigations prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigations and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
  • Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator's scope of experience, and handle any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments in the industry, such as new equipment, methods, and procedures.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
  • Consult with owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Construction-related technology, or extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities described above.
  • 7 to 10 years' related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with infrastructure projects, including highways, mass transit, hydro power generation, heavy civil, and/or concrete structures.
  • Ideal experience with build and self-perform projects.
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with, and strong aptitude for, various estimating software systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) is considered an asset, as mobility across provinces in Canada is required.

  • Perform work safely and effectively, understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines, work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
