Job Summary:

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled professional to fill the role of Construction Plans Examiner. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex construction documents, ensuring code compliance, and providing guidance to building owners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze building plans and property development proposals to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations
  • Attend final inspections of new buildings to verify compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Develop educational materials and resources for building owners and professionals to promote code compliance and best practices
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to building owners, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders on building codes and regulations
  • Research and recommend updates to building codes and regulations to ensure they remain current and effective
  • Coordinate with operations staff to ensure safety and health compliance in construction projects
  • Maintain accurate records and data related to plan reviews and inspections
  • Participate in committees and meetings to stay informed on industry developments and best practices
  • Advise on code interpretations and provide guidance on compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Ensure that all construction projects meet or exceed health and safety standards

Requirements:

  • Level 2 Building Official Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum ten years' experience in a related field, such as building inspection or code enforcement
  • Valid driver's license
  • Technical knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations
