Job Summary

The Welding Engineering Supervisor will lead a team of welding engineers and technical specialists in a fast-paced heavy manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will have a strong background in welding engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, with a proven track record of leading teams and managing complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain shop documentation, including welding procedure qualification records and weld procedure specifications, to ensure compliance with quality system and customer specification requirements.
  • Assess and resolve non-conforming conditions that affect the product, working closely with quality control and other stakeholders to identify and implement solutions.
  • Develop and support shop procedures for existing and new welding applications, ensuring that they are aligned with company policies and industry standards.
  • Maintain realistic time standards and provide realistic durations for shop schedules, reviewing historical data and conducting time studies as needed.
  • Maintain a database of welding equipment, consumables, and approvals, as well as information on past practices and procedures.
  • Conduct pre-manufacturing product reviews, identifying tooling and fixtures needed to support the work and making adjustments to design or concept sketches as required.
  • Design and draft tooling as needed to support shop welding activities, including design analysis for strength using classical or finite element tools.
  • Assist with procurement of new welding equipment from vendors and provide training on various processes as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in welding engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Higher level degree (master's or PhD) considered an asset.
  • P.Eng. - Mechanical or appropriate engineering field required.
  • 15+ years of experience in a fast-paced heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code specifically.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with proven clear and succinct written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of statistical process control tools and principles.
  • Comfortable with common Microsoft Office software applications.

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Certified Welding Engineer or International Welding Engineer (IWE).
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is expected to be between $107,000 and $156,000 per year, depending on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. The total compensation package may also include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits.
