About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a skilled Psychologist to join our Operational Stress Injuries Clinic. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide mental health assessment and treatment services to Veterans and their families who are experiencing work-related psychological stress and trauma.

The successful candidate will have a recognized doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, registration under the Psychologists Act of Nova Scotia, and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, substance use disorders, and PTSD using evidence-based approaches. They will also have training in evidence-based therapies for PTSD, depression, and anxiety disorders, as well as experience working in an interdisciplinary service delivery model.

The OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment to clients and their families referred by Veterans Affairs Canada, RCMP, and the Department of National Defense. The services of the OSI Clinic are provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and an occupational therapist.

The Psychologist will be required to provide education to various stakeholders, maintain contact with referring agencies, and utilize tele-mental health and other distance technologies to provide services in outlying communities. They will also be responsible for carrying out OSI-specific research, including writing peer-reviewed grant proposals, and working in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies, and procedures of the NSHA and VAC guidelines for OSI clinics.

About You
  • Recognized doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered or eligible for registration under the Psychologists Act of Nova Scotia
  • CPA/APA accredited internship/residency (or equivalent) in clinical psychology
  • Clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, substance use disorders, and PTSD using evidence-based approaches
  • Training in evidence-based therapies for PTSD, depression, and anxiety disorders
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary service delivery model
  • Experience in a military or police services environment is an asset
  • Experience with assessment of police, veterans, and/or Canadian forces members with operational stress injuries
  • Experience providing trauma-focused therapy
  • Experience providing treatment in an outpatient community setting
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of military/police services personnel who are experiencing service-related mental health problems
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain good working relations
  • Effective mentoring and clinical supervision skills to support both the academic role and the clinical practice of other team members
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent, Full Time (100%) Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$56.46 - $62.74 Hourly
