As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse is dedicated to delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including patient assessment, intervention, symptom management, and treatment coordination, all aligned with established healthcare policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct nursing care to oncology patients by conducting thorough assessments, reviewing medical histories, and formulating individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each patient, considering their psychosocial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to create and adjust treatment plans based on ongoing assessments and patient progress.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products as dictated by the care plan, while monitoring patient responses and making informed decisions regarding physician consultations when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate patient records by documenting health histories, nursing assessments, and treatment outcomes, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Assist patients in understanding their care plans and refer them to additional healthcare resources as needed.
  • Uphold a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Required Skills

  • Proven clinical expertise and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in practice.
  • Proficiency in utilizing clinical technology to enhance patient care.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting Indigenous rights and reconciliation efforts in healthcare.
