BC Cancer is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as an Oncology Specialist. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide holistic nursing care to oncology patients, utilizing evidence-based practice to assess, intervene, and manage symptoms, treatment coordination, and administration.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients, including assessment, review of patient and family history, and development of a nursing care plan.
- Collaborate with patients, family, and multidisciplinary team members to develop treatment/care plans and modify them as needed.
- Administer medications, injections, blood products, and IV fluids as required by the care plan, monitoring patient reactions and changes in physical or mental status.
- Maintain patient records, collecting and documenting patient information, health care history, nursing assessment, telephone communications, symptom and side effect management, patient and family education, and care evaluations.
- Admit, transfer, or discharge patients according to BC Cancer policies and Centre directives.
- Assist patients in interpreting their care plan, referring them to other healthcare professionals and programs as needed.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to emergency procedures and safety policies and standards.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated relevant clinical knowledge, ability to apply clinical knowledge in practice, and utilization of clinical and information technology to enhance patient care.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, the public, and all levels of staff both verbally and in writing.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
- Comprehensive BC Cancer nursing orientation program.
