Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Lead Financial Analyst within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The primary purpose of the Lead Financial Analyst (Grants and Contracts) is to provide research-specific support and guidance to Principal Investigators regarding the administration of contracts. The role is to safeguard Rutgers Cancer Institute contract resources and determine appropriate allocability and allowability in the daily administration of study budgets, maintenance of documentation from the initial and final end of contracts related to financial aspects of project accounts.

Key Duties
  • Responsible for the post-award administration and coordination of assigned clinical trials, grants, and contracts for research and other non-sponsored programs.
  • Monitors incoming revenue, runs and maintains cash receipts report and works closely with internal/external entities to obtain corresponding payment details to ensure timely posting of payments.
  • Conducts quantitative and financial analysis of complex spreadsheets from Oracle's diverse financial system to provide timely and insightful analysis of projects.
  • Assists with conducting monthly variance analysis, budget and forecast projections, and other financial reporting such as preparation of comprehensive P&L statements.
  • Not just limited to corporate research contracts but also includes federal and state and other sponsored agencies to ensure posting of accurate journal entries to the sub and general ledger.
  • Collaborates diligently with Research Financial Services (RFS) central Grant Specialists in the reconciliation of billings arising from all sources of Grants and Contract research sponsored programs.
  • Maintains financial analysis templates to ensure allocation of costs and payments from sponsored programs are allowable and allocable.
  • Reviews and approves Marketplace requisitions, reconciles and maintains Purchase Orders for associated clinical research services, performs adjusting entries as needed to post costs to project accounts, and provides responses to inquiries related to contract awards.
  • Submits salary and fringe relief cost transfers and budget allocation through journal entry by cost center in Oracle Financial system.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field required.
  • Four (4) years of related experience in a Basic Research environment within a healthcare or academic organization required.
  • Equivalent experience, education, and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with journal entries, financial statement reporting, and general accounting (GAAP) concepts are also required.
  • Strong financial experience of industry-sponsored and non-industry sponsored clinical trials.
  • The ideal candidate will have accounting skills, be detail-oriented, possess excellent organizational skills, be able to prioritize, multitask, be proficient in computer applications at an advanced level, including MS Word and Excel, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced skill level in database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel required, including chart development, V-Lookups, and Pivot Tables.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at a non-profit and/or higher education medical center is preferred.
  • Experience with OnCore CTMS preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPT coding and EPIC research billing is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate noise.
