Job Summary

The Registered Nurse, Perinatal Focus, is a key member of the Brightshores team, responsible for delivering high-quality patient care to labour and birth patients, postpartum mother-baby dyads, and gynaecological patients. This role requires a strong commitment to patient-centered care, with a focus on providing exceptional service and promoting a safe and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and coordinate all nursing care for labour and birth patients, postpartum mother-baby dyads, and gynaecological patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards.
  • Utilize knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, technologies, and best practices in perinatal nursing.

Requirements

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility.
  • Competency in Labour & Delivery, with ability to work independently within 6 months.
  • PACU Course completion within 1 year.
  • Certified in NRP.
  • Current certification in the following skills or commitment to complete within 1 year:
  • Fetal Health Surveillance.
  • Breastfeeding Certificate.
  • The first segment of a normal Mother/Baby Perinatal Course.
  • Vaginal Examinations.
  • Epidural Catheter Care for L & D.
  • Venipunctures to start and IV on Neonates, Children and Adults.
  • Medications below the drip chamber.
  • Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Interviewing and patient assessment skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Recent mother-baby dyad care within 5 years.
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education.
  • Ability to complete AWHONN Perinatal orientation program or High Risk Obstetrics course within 2 years.
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records.
  • Adherence to Brightshores' CARE Behaviours and LEAD Competencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing.
  • BCLS.
  • Physical Assessment Course.
  • ACORN.
  • ALARM.
  • CPI Training.
