Perinatal Social Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled Perinatal Social Worker to join our team at IWK Health. As a member of our interprofessional team, you will provide social work services and family-centered care within the Women's & Newborn Health Program. Your primary role will be to provide situational mental health support, crisis intervention, psychosocial support, discharge planning, and resource counseling to individuals and families experiencing physical, mental, or social complexities in pregnancy.
Key Responsibilities- Provide trauma-responsive, culturally safe care and grief/loss work to families experiencing stillbirth, early neonatal loss, or termination of pregnancy due to fetal anomalies.
- Liaise with community, health, and government services to build collaborative partnerships, facilitate resource acquisition, and advocate for appropriate resources to meet client needs.
- Supervise clinical MSW student placements, teach, and participate in program development, evaluation, and research as needed.
- Provide social work coverage across the health center and work collaboratively with other social workers within the program.
- Masters Degree in Social Work required.
- Current license, or eligible for licensure, as a Registered Social Worker with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) required.
- Minimum of two (2) years related professional experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker is preferred.
- Knowledge of obstetric milestones, life transitions, mental health & addictions, intimate partner violence, and women's health required.
- Advanced Psychotherapy skills (including brief therapies and grief counseling) and working knowledge of the DSM-5 are considered assets.
