We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Charge Nurse to join our team at Scarborough Retirement Residence. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to our residents and ensuring the smooth operation of our nursing department.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide supportive and person-centered care to residents, promoting their physical, social, spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being.
- Participate in care plan development and implementation, working collaboratively with the care team to ensure resident needs are met.
- Oversee the nursing department during shifts, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for residents and staff.
- Assess, report, and record resident health changes, maintaining accurate and complete records in compliance with legislative requirements and Residence policies.
- Promote and maintain RHA compliance with all aspects of the Act, particularly Part IV—Resident's Rights, Care, and Safety.
- Establish communication with appropriate sources in response to emergencies, practicing universal precautions and adhering to WHMIS protocols.
- Direct, assign, and evaluate the work of Personal Support Workers (PSWs), utilizing leadership skills to identify problems and assist in problem-solving.
- Administer medications and treatments in compliance with Residence policies and College of Nurses standards.
- Document and report all errors and omissions, demonstrating accountability and a commitment to quality care.
- Complete audits and inventories as required, ensuring efficient ordering and utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Liaise with healthcare personnel, agencies, and families as needed, maintaining good relationships with Medical/Support/Residence staff, residents, families, and the general public.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth and development through participation in staff development programs, committees, seminars, and workshops.
- 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RPN or RN)
- Ability to communicate in English
- Physical fitness to move about the building, climb stairs, transfer residents, and evacuate them in an emergency
- Computer skills, including Microsoft 365 software and Point-Click Care software
- Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques, including courses or experience in geriatrics
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificates
- WHMIS training
- Occupational Health and Safety Committee Training
- Vulnerable sector clearance certificate
- Ability to pass the mandatory annual training as required by the Residence and the government of Ontario
- Strong critical thinking skills
