Program Coordinator - Young Caregiver Initiative

The Program Coordinator for the Young Caregiver Initiative is tasked with implementing high-quality educational, social, and recreational therapeutic activities as outlined by the Young Caregivers Association. This role involves delivering engaging, interactive programming in person for children aged 8-12, fostering resilience, enhancing self-worth, and reducing feelings of isolation among young caregivers. All activities and support must be structured and executed in a safe, enjoyable, and developmentally suitable manner for young caregivers and their families.

Caregivers Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources and assistance to individuals who offer unpaid care to family members and friends. The Program Coordinator will operate from a flexible location, either remotely or in an office setting. This is a part-time, fixed-term position lasting 12 weeks.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation

  • Lead the planning and coordination of in-person sessions for young caregivers aged 8-12.
  • Design and facilitate engaging sessions tailored to the unique needs of young caregivers.
  • Develop comprehensive program plans for in-person activities, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared to support the weekly programs and project requirements.
  • Guarantee the health and safety of all program components, including venue and participant involvement.

Emotional Support and Mentorship

  • Provide personalized support and guidance to young caregivers, addressing their individual needs and challenges.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for young caregivers to connect, share experiences, and foster a sense of community.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with young caregivers and their families, celebrating their achievements and promoting self-esteem.

Resource Management

  • Collaborate with external partners, including healthcare professionals and community organizations, to access additional resources and support for young caregivers.
  • Assist young caregivers in finding relevant resources, such as educational materials and community services.
  • Promote the Young Caregiver Initiative and engage potential participants by establishing connections with local schools and youth organizations.

Program Assessment and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records, including participant data, attendance, and documentation required for the project.
  • Conduct regular evaluations to assess the progress and impact of the initiative.
  • Gather feedback from participants and stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social services, therapeutic recreation, child and youth studies, or a related field.
  • Experience working with youth, caregivers, or vulnerable populations.
  • Proven ability in effective program planning and delivery.

Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding of the issues faced by young caregivers and the resources available to them.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building trust with diverse families and referral agencies.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology and online platforms for program delivery.
  • Empathetic, patient, and able to provide emotional support while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Organizational skills to manage project logistics, programming, and documentation effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and facilitate group sessions or workshops.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed-term contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected Hours: 7 – 12 per week
