Employment Skills Facilitator Opportunity

About the Role:

The Employment Skills Facilitator will support the STEP Coordinator in the implementation and daily operations of the STEP Program. This position will lead in the facilitation of the 5-week employment readiness training, support the project in the recruitment of youth and employers, and support the individualized support of each participant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the program is congruent with Phoenix's vision and values.
  • Support the agency's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of PLEC.
  • Support STEP Coordinator with project service delivery and daily operational activity.
  • Recruit, assess and complete youth intakes in conjunction with STEP Coordinator.
  • Design and lead in the co-facilitation of a 5-week youth employment readiness training program.
  • Support the start-up and close planning/procedures of each 5-week cohort.
  • Assist youth to develop their individual work plan based on their unique employment goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the PLEC team to identify, recruit and screen employers.
  • Provide ongoing case management support including workplace visits and job coaching activities.
  • Actively engage and participate in internal Phoenix committees, projects, and activities.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new staff and volunteers.
  • Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics, and files using the Phoenix database.
  • Support the maintenance and completion of program statistics and activity/progress reports.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with youth.
  • High level of understanding of youth development issues.
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with youth.
  • Knowledge of labour market trends in Halifax Regional Municipality.
  • Understanding and skill applying a social justice lens.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to guide youth through career exploration.
  • Ability to work in a team environment effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or relevant human services or social science diploma/degree, with a minimum of 3 years direct experience working with youth.
  • Preferably 2 years experience working in employment counselling or job coaching.
  • Preferably 2 years experience in developing/facilitating pre-employment and employment training.
  • Experience in program implementation and overall administration.
  • Standard First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), and naloxone administration or a commitment to secure these certifications within six months of hire.
