About the Opportunity:

The Vancouver School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Youth and Family Support Specialist to join our Community School Team/Enhanced Services. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social-emotional and behavioural interventions, school and community connectedness, regular attendance, and successful transitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based strategies and interventions to enhance students' social, emotional, and behavioural functioning in consultation with other members of the student's support team.
  • Support grade-to-grade transitions, particularly grade 7 to 8 transitions.
  • Encourage regular student attendance at school.
  • Liaise with school-based professionals and community agencies to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Plan and implement prevention programs in conjunction with teachers and school staff.
  • Support students in developing greater self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-advocacy.
  • Liaise with families and caregivers to engage in school and community-based out-of-school time activities to enhance student success.
  • Maintain accurate records and files regarding services provided to students.

Requirements:

  • Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years of full-time equivalent post-secondary education and/or a diploma in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of developmental psychology and ability to assess students' behavioural and social-emotional needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Position requires travel throughout the district.
  • Occupational First Aid certification required.
