Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Manager – Nutrition & Food Services, Site Coordinator, or Supervisor - Nutrition & Food Services, the Culinary Specialist I is tasked with overseeing and executing the daily preparation, cooking, and serving of safe, high-quality nutritious meals to clients including patients, residents, staff, and visitors of the facility. This role adheres to established standards, departmental policies, and government regulations.

The incumbent is expected to demonstrate initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods, while addressing any unusual matters that may arise. The position aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in both official languages is essential (English/French)

• Completion of Grade 12 Education or equivalent

• Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Outlook/Email

• Understanding of therapeutic and modified food textures

• Knowledge of sanitary food handling principles and procedures

• Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience in health care food service or institutional cooking

• Other suitable combinations of education and experience may be considered

• Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and with attention to detail

• Ability to maintain an organized work environment

• Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

• Effective communication skills with staff, health care professionals, and co-workers

• Ability to foster positive working relationships with all staff, residents, patients, and clients

• Competence in following verbal and written instructions

• Skill in handling chemicals and cleaning supplies according to defined procedures

• Problem-solving abilities within the scope of the position

• Competency in cash management

• Commitment to safety practices, including principles of body mechanics and chemical safety

• Physical capability to lift items as required

• Respect for cultural diversity within the population served

• Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job

• Commitment to confidentiality in all formats

Conditions of Employment:
